So.  I've been toying with the idea of a cheesy lesbian schoolgirl romance type of comic.  I don't know when/if this will happen as I really have more pressing things to worry about.  But it would be fun, y/y?  I have never done a proper comic before.

UPDATE on the state of the tablet:  I am still TEH SUCK at photoshop coloring stuff.  I am ashamed, you guys.  What is the secret????

Now to go show my Don Giovanni project who's boss and send out some applications.

I have tentatively titled this "Brothers(bzw."Brüderbecause it's set in medieval Germany) because I have no imagination when it comes to titles.  I am happy to hear better ideas from other people.
The medium is green Visconti ink.  It is so choice.  If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up ;D

Premise:
After the death of their parents, two brothers decide to part ways.  One goes out into the world to make his fortune and the other stays at home.  It is a very long time before they see each other again.

And so, without further ado:

I'm planning to get this nicely printed and sell it in zine form.  Printing intimidates me and stuff, so I'm not gonna make it in time for the London zine symposium.  Nevertheless, I will find a different way!

Desire

Just got back from a study trip to Rome which was HOMG AMAZING!!  I will just say these things.  1.  Food porn 2. the Renaissance is my favorite 3. Shelley Keats museum.  I have some sketches to scan in which I may post later.
I feel rather bad for updating so little lately, but that's mostly because I have this larger project that I'm still finishing up.  I'll expect it to be done sometime in April, so prepare yourselves ;D
In the meantime, here's a little one-off thing that we had to do on the subject of desire.  The original is a full-body version, but I think I actually prefer it cropped like this.  Kind of a new style for me.

You know, the one with the opening that sounds like every dramatic film soundtrack EVER.

This was supposed to be about cutting through the complications and bureaucracy in life, but then while I was working on it the evil maze of human sorrow somehow came out as more of a huzzah!  it's a beautiful day in the countryside! kind of maze.  Well, these things do happen.

Right, so this evolved quite a bit from the original thing I handed in, but I'm still not really over-the-moon about it.  This makes me sad, because I love being over-the-moon about stuff DX
I became aware of the issue of conflict minerals a while back when someone mentioned it on there blog and then later when I was working on this project I did a bit more research.  If you're interested, some good resources are:

The Enough Project
A charity/awareness organization which doesn't focus exclusively on conflict minerals, but has a good kind of easy-to-digest rundown of the topic.
USAID Minerals and Conflict Toolkit
Possibly the more reliable resource and definitely much more detailed, but still not a bad read.

Assessment tomorrow and then I am FREEEEEE--er!

You may think this illustration seems totally random and a little inappropriate for Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and you may be right in thinking that.  This was just one of those niggling little ideas that had to be made, and I'm sort of glad it's not so serious.  More practice on my tablet, which still takes me freakin' AGES to use, but I think that I am slowly but surely getting the hang of it.  Thoughts on typography, yes/no?  I'm pretty awful at typography, which should surprise no one.
I've actually been really productive (and therefore really stressed, but the secretly-enjoying-it kind of stress) lately, so expect more updates!

Article 9:
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Frohe Weihnachten and/or Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating today!  I'm still waiting for my baby sister to arrive (stupid Heathrow), so sadly I'll be a little delayed in celebrating D:
I have a strange fondness for "Sun Valley Serenade"--it makes me really nostalgic for the couple of years I spent christmas down there at my grandparent's house.  The awesome thing about the movie is that practically nothing has changed since then!

Mrs Eaves

To explain:  the following was for a project in which we had to personify a typeface.  I got rather lucky getting Mrs Eaves (nostalgic with a modern twist) but in retrospect I seem to have been a bit heavy-handed on the nostalgic bit.  I do like for their own sake as images though.

Come on in... )

Byron was such a BAMF.  I love him so much that I have an actual bust of him in my room, no kidding.
Anyway, he used to write some really nasty letters about Keats to Shelley and they would make fun of him.  It wasn't very nice, because not everyone can be as hardcore as Byron, and that's not their fault.  At least Keats had ridiculous good looks going for him.

This is basically just a repainted version of a little card series from ages back that I did to test out my new shiny!  I think I am going to like this digital art spiel.  It doesn't require me to remove myself from my natural habitat in front of my laptop.  On the other hand, I have to admit that it was 1. much slower than it was when I just painted it using watercolors and 2. less satisfying.  I guess I just like physical objects!
Still, I might eventually do the others as well.
